Thomas A. Gorczynski

Is a nationally recognized speaker and educator specialized in federal tax law. He is the author of the Tom Talks Taxes online newsletter, co-author of the PassKey Learning Systems EA Review Series, and co-owner of Compass Tax Educators. He is an Enrolled Agent, a Certified Tax Planner, a National Tax Practice InstituteTM Fellow, a Certified Tax Resolution Specialist, and admitted to the bar of the United States Tax Court as a non-attorney. He has a Master of Science in Taxation from Golden Gate University and a Certificate in Finance and Accounting from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Tom’s tax practice in Phoenix, Arizona focuses on implementing advanced tax reduction strategies and representing taxpayers with complex tax problems before the IRS and in the United States Tax Court.

He is a featured speaker at this year’s Miami Tax Convention, where he will cover key topics including:

James Lee

Chief of IRS Criminal Investigation

Is the keynote speaker of this year’s Miami Tax Convention. He supervises a global team of approximately 3,100 employees, including 2,100 special agents that work in 20 Field Offices across the country and 11 foreign countries. Jim understands the importance of supporting compliant taxpayers while emphasizing the importance of maintaining a strong, robust enforcement effort aimed at addressing those who have compliance issues. As Chief of IRS CI, Jim leads and oversees the IRS’s criminal enforcement efforts to investigate tax code violations and some of the most significant financial crimes such as money laundering, public corruption, cybercrimes, identity theft, narcotics, and terrorist-financing. It is a privilege for the Miami Tax Convention 2023 to have Jim Lee as the keynote speaker, benefiting from his wealth of knowledge and experience. Attendees can look forward to gaining valuable insights and perspectives on crucial topics such as tax compliance, enforcement, and the fight against financial crimes.

Mary Beth Lougen

Is president and founder of American Expat Tax Services, an international tax preparation company that assists Americans living abroad. She is also the COO of Expat Tax Tools an international tax software company that offers the Form 8621 Calculator. Mary Beth is an Enrolled Agent and also one of approximately 300 United States Tax Court Practitioners (USTCP) in the world and has earned the right to represent taxpayers in the U.S. Tax Court with the same standing as an attorney by passing the equivalent of a four-hour bar exam that includes a large section of substantive federal tax law. In addition, Mary Beth has a Masters of Legal Studies in Taxation from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Mary Beth is a well-respected Expat Tax advisor with over 35 years of U.S. and Expat income tax experience working both in the United States and in Canada. She continues to be a sought-after speaker, instructor and panelist at International Tax Conferences nationally including the American Bar Association, CalCPA Assoc., NAEA, Bloomberg BNA, and the Procopio International Tax Institute along with being a contributor to tax publications like the Bloomberg BNA tax publications, the EA Journal and the Journal of Tax Practice and Procedures. Mary Beth will cover the following topics:

Jeffrey Schneider is an EA (Enrolled Agent), CTRS (Certified Tax Resolution Specialist), ACT-E, (Advanced Crypto Tax Expert) and NTPI Fellow (Member of the NTPI (National Tax Practice Institute)). Jeffrey has been in the tax field for over 40 years beginning his career in the public sector and transitioning to private practice in 1999 when he founded SFS Tax & Accounting Services.

Erin Collins

National Taxpayer Advocate

Erin Collins is the “voice of the taxpayer” within the IRS and before Congress. She joined the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) as the National Taxpayer Advocate (NTA) in March 2020 to advocate for taxpayers, protect their rights, and work toward improving the quality of taxpayer service and tax administration.

Erin has more than 35 years of experience in tax law, spanning 15 years in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel and 20 years at the accounting firm of KPMG LLP, where she retired in 2019 as the Tax Managing Director in charge of its tax controversy practice for the Western region. At KPMG, Erin represented thousands of individuals, partnerships, small companies, and corporate taxpayers on technical and procedural tax matters. She represented clients in federal examinations and IRS appeals on domestic and international tax issues. She also has represented several clients before the U.S. Tax Court.
